Christian pacifism against the war

Fredrich Atkins jests, "War is wrong but it is perfectly justified as soon as we engage in it." Situational ethics authorizes killing enemies when one is in danger. During the First World War, Christlich Welt even recommended a temporary suspension of Christianity. I created the original sketches for this drawing soon after the 9-11 terrorist attack in New York and Washington, D.C. The comic book soldier halos a Mennonite woman who breathes via gas mask. One of the gases emits the fragrance of a gardenia, which is a flower my grandmother nursed in her flowerbed, and occasionally wore in intricate patterns on her dress. There is a horrific irony that something so fragrant acts as a blistering agent.
