"Totem Triptychs: Each, oil painted, triptych has three 6" x 8" panels. The layout concept for these triptychs spawned from the children's card game that playfully matches animal parts resulting in hybrid animals. While each triptych is thematically complete, there is unlimited potential for variant narratives when the panels are interchanged. As I sketched out the 36 drawings, I selected a wide variety topics; the declining need for manual labor, unequal pay for equal work by women, and the absurdity of standing in-line to pay for entertainment, etc. As with my other work, a strong interest in narration is illustratively evident." -DS
